Fitness Journey



It’s never easy sharing your flaws, when and where you messed up or failed, when your life seemed out of control and you just didn’t know where to start. I remember being there! The thing is, everyone starts somewhere! I didn’t just wake up one morning and run a half marathon!

My journey started when I went to college. I was always active and athletic in high school, but college came around. Sports were no long part of my daily activity, my meal options turned into fried foods and pizza, plus came the college drinking! I was pouring nothing but junk into my body!
.
For about 2 years I struggled with an eating disorder. I couldn’t get my body under control! I wanted to be healthy, I wanted to look good, but I LOVED food (and I still do!). So when things got stressful, I ate. When I got tired or sad, I ate. It was my comfort!
.
Fast forward to my senior year in college. My mom, sister, and I were in a nearby neighborhood where we walked to get some exercise. My sister suggested, “hey, why don’t we run for a little while.” My mom agreed! I thought, no problem, I used to run track! 12 minutes later I still hadn’t completed a mile. I couldn’t breathe, I couldn’t move, and as I watched my mom and sister run ahead without me I started crying. How did I get like this? How did I gain so much weight that I can’t move my body anymore?

I had heard of a program called Insanity and I thought to myself, this is it! If I don’t change something now I never will! I was sick of feeling gross, sick of my clothes being too small, sick of walking by every mirror and purposefully not looking into it because I hated what was staring back at me! I was sick of being on blood pressure medicine, fearful of my genetics but not doing anything about it! So I committed, 60 days with only ONE cheat meal per week! I lost 17lbs in those 60 days!

I went on to run a half marathon! I later did the program Body Beast and Hammer and Chisel where I toned up! And I decided that I wanted to give someone else the opportunity to change their lives like this program did mine!
.
I didn’t wake up and run a half marathon, I didn’t just stop eating! I educated myself through my coach and accountability groups, I surrounded myself with women who encouraged me to succeed! I fixed the way I was eating so I could eat more better food and less junk! I got active and now I FEEL better!
.
I gained muscle, I lost weight, I gained friendships, I lost some medications, I sleep better, but most importantly I FEEL good! I am confident, not perfect! I am strong, not skinny! And I am still on the journey whenever you want to join me!
